Mount Nebo Trail
Mount Nebo Wilderness, Wasatch Mountains

Mount Nebo is the southernmost mountain in the Wasatch range, and at 11,928 ft, it's also the tallest. The mountain has three distinct peaks, but the trail to the summit actually leads only to the second highest peak at 11,877. The mountain is covered in snow most of the year, making midsummer through mid-fall the best time to climb.
Nebo is not for the faint of heart. The well-marked trail is very steep; you will gain more than 5,400 feet of elevation in the 6.6 miles it takes to get to the top. The last section of the strenuous trail is well above the tree line and you'll be scrambling over loose boulders for part of the way. You'll also want to make sure to bring plenty of water, as there are no reliable sources along the trail.
Many people do the hike in one day, but there are several good campsites along the way for those who want to enjoy the wilderness for a time. As expected, the views from the top are spectacular and well worth the difficult climb.

This hike is just a beast. It's short but very steep and the last section is just a scramble up loose boulders for what seems like a long time. Not too scenic at the top, but it's a great feeling to have done it. Casual hikers need not apply.
